Actress and musician Mandy Moore has focused on the former rather than the latter part of that title over the past decade. Now she's switching gears, and we're getting a lot more of her musical talent as she sets out on the road for a new tour. This is what you need to know.
Mandy Moore started as a singer
It's been over 20 years since Moore first broke out on stage. About the same time as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and other young bubble gum pop stars at the time, Moore's debut single, "Candy," became a massive phenomenon. She toured with boy bands such as the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC.
Moore began to battle music at an impressive rate. Her second album, In Wanna Be With You came out just five months after her first, and her third just one year after that. Moore then took a break and focused on acting, but returned to music and released another three albums in six years.
Today she is known for "This Is Us"
Unlike her teenage symbols, Moore actually managed to start an acting career at the same time. She packed a punch with two films released back to back that showed her reach: The supporting role of middle-aged girl Lana in The Princess Diaries and the heartbreaking heroine A Walk to remember . [1
Why did Mandy Moore make music?
So why did Moore continue to act but refrained from making music? The reason has to do with her personal life. She was in a relationship with singer Ryan Adams from 2008 to 2014, and they married in 2009-2016. Adams was later charged with sexual conduct and "manipulative behavior," and Moore is among his victims.
"His controlling behavior essentially blocked my ability to make new connections in the industry during a very important and potentially lucrative time – all the way in the mid to late 20s," Moore said in early 2019. Adams had originally told her that he would help her transition from teenage pop star to adult musician, but instead he hindered her career growth while they were together.
She resumed her musical career
Moore underwent a lot over the years following her relationship with Adams. She met and then married Taylor Goldsmith from the band Dawes, who helped inspire her creatively and encouraged her to return to her first love: music.
Now there is finally new music to listen to. Moore released her first single since 2009, entitled "When I Wasn't Watching" on September 17, 2019. (She sang music for the Tangled track, but this specifically refers to her own music). Her second single, "Rather Rather Lose," was released on November 1, 2019.
When will Mandy Moore be on tour?
What comes after a musical release? A trip, of course. Moore announced in November 2019 that she plans to get out on the road with her new songs by 2020. She actually asked fans where they would like her to play.
On November 19, 2019, Moore shared her official tour date for her upcoming North American tour. She starts things off in Pittsburgh on March 20, 2020 and ends May 9, 2020 in Denver, CO. Tickets go on sale Friday, November 22, 2019. Read more here.
