Liverpool may have already won the Premier League in 2019/20, but Jurgen Klopp’s side want to end the season in the style of a number of records that can still be broken, which has been the level of their performance so far this season.
Next up for the Reds is a trip to Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola’s side 23 big points behind Liverpool in the Premier League in second place, but they will make sure to stop Klopp’s strong last form.
Joel Matip, Xherdan Shaqiri and James Milner will all be missing from injury against City, with Klopp likely to select a well-known lineup.
So which lineup will Liverpool go for? And what will be the end result?
We used FIFA 20 to have some fun and get a unique prediction for this Midweek Premier League collision.
Man City vs. Liverpool points predicted on FIFA 20
To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 20 but did not choose a team to control. We then chose the team and watched the game play out by itself, to give us a unique prediction.
The AI difficulty was set to legendary, with line-up updated with the latest transfers, damage and suspensions, to make the simulation as realistic as possible.
We predict it Manchester City could configure in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows; Ederson; Walker, Otamendi, Laporte, Mendy; Rodri, Gundogan, De Bruyne; Sterling, Jesus, Mahrez.
We predict it Liverpool could configure in a 4-3-3 formation, with line-up as follows; Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Henderson; Mane, Firmino, Salah.
FIFA 20 predicts Liverpool will have to show real fighting in this game, in what could be an epic Premier League meeting.
In our simulation, it didn’t take long for Liverpool to make their mark in this game by scoring their first real chance in the tenth minute, when Gini Wijnaldum opened the scoring.
The Dutch midfielder came across his marker to go home from close range and came at the end of a fantastic Roberto Firmino cross, without Ederson having no chance.
City were the team with the most possession after the goal, but the Reds looked pretty comfortable knowing they had a significant threat to the counter.
But just before halftime, City leveled the score by former Red Raheem Sterling, who came at the end of a low cross from the right, just in front of Alisson, and took home from close range.
Incredibly, Liverpool struck back immediately during the first half’s extra time through Sadio Mane, with the Senegalese forward striking a brilliant effort in the far corner from the edge of the urban area to put the Reds ahead during the break.
In the second half, City pressed forward to try to get an equalizer, but it left them wide open behind. Which, of course, exploited Liverpool to a devastating effect.
Replacement Naby Keita entered the team in the 67th minute, with the midfielder making a near volley after being set up by Andy Robertson from the left.
And it was even time for the Reds to take a fourth, when Fabinho found the net with 12 minutes to go, and made a curling effort from the edge of the area to really rub salt in City’s wounds, set up by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
And that’s how it ended with Liverpool completing a double over Manchester City during the 2019/20 season.
