ROSEMONT, Ill. "After all that led to his MMA debut, Dillon Danis delivered to Bellator 198 with a first round of winnings and he says there is much more to come.
"I'm pleased with my performance," said Danis after victory. "It was my first fight. Many people get heated fights and things like that." I came out, I took the whole card on my back, I did all the media – this match is the second biggest battle in Bellator's history. How many people Doing his debut so? "
Danis (1-0 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) used a slick toeholder to take out an over-matched Kyle Walker at Saturday's Bellator 198 event at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.
"I said I would finish him in the first round, and I did," said Danis. "I've anticipated that moment since I was 15 years old… I've seen this about 10 million times in my head."
The final result came relatively easily, but Danis has to fight through an early injury. A gripping ace Danis noticed on his feet in the opening seconds but insisted he was not injured. And while a flawless victory is always preferable, he thinks he takes a beat or two before sending the opponent, turns out to be better.
"It was good to show everyone that I will not shake it." Danis said. "I'm here to fight. A lot of Jiu-jitsu guys would have smiled under these shots. They would have been looking for a way out and they would have jumped. I continued on, I confronted my adversity and I got him the ground and finished him. "
Even though only a professional match is coming, attention will be paid to Danis for sure to continue to grow. Training with Conor McGregor will do it for you – but Danis encompasses the spotlight and consistently predicts greatness for his future and insists "When you are so good, you do not feel pressure."
Whether he can deliver further hype will be determined when he faces more talented opponents, but Danis earned a nick from the moving legend Royce Gracie for his efforts – and "El Jefe" thinks it's only the beginning.
"I think my guard is good enough to hand in someone in the world," said Danis. "I just need to get the person to the ground and it's over."
