On Friday, President Trump confirmed that he has withdrawn the choice to lead immigration and customs administration and says that the administration will "go in a harder direction" – as he leads to the border of a law enforcement round table

TRUMP GIVES MEXICO A "ANNUAL YEAR WARNING" TO STOP DRUGS, MIGRANTS OR HIS TAX PROTECT CARS AND WHEN TABLE

The Associated Press reported Thursday that the White House had withdrawn the nomination of current Deputy Director Ron Vitiello and that the decision was unexpectedly and faced with confusion by legislators. Vitiello was expected to travel with Trump to Calexico, California, where the president holds a roundtable discussion with law enforcement and visiting parts of the border wall.

An official in the homeland security had said it was a paper error, but other officials said it did not seem to be a mistake and on Friday, Trump confirmed that he had been completely withdrawn and the administration would choose someone else.

The nomination requires the Senate to be confirmed. Vitiello, who has been a law enforcement agent for more than 30 years, including with Border Patrol, had cleared a committee and considered one second. He will remain as Deputy Director of the Agency.

ICE has been at the center of much of the political controversy surrounding the enforcement of immigration laws. Some democrats, including a number of 2020 hopefuls, have demanded that the agency either be abolished or restructured altogether.

The administration, in turn, has encountered ICE's defense and says it plays a central role in keeping Americans safe from drugs and criminals immigrants.

The confusion over Vitiello's nomination comes as the administration encrypts to handle an increase in immigrants coming across the border. Officials said last week that the US was about to adopt more than 1

00,000 border crossings in March – marking a twelve year old.

The administration has repeatedly called the situation a crisis and the president in February explained a national emergency at the border. Trump has blamed Congress not to change "loopholes" in immigration laws that allow migrants to be released into the United States while waiting for their court cases and have gathered against Mexico for not doing enough to stop migratory flows north.

Last week, he threatened to completely close the border if Mexico did not increase its efforts but encountered the threat on Thursday and gave them a "one year warning" and threatened tariffs instead.

On Friday, he said that Mexico has done more to prevent illegal immigration in the last four days, but repeated its warning that he is considering closing the border or releasing tariffs on cars coming from the country.

"I've never changed, I can shut it down at some point, but I'd rather make tariffs. Mexico I have to say has been very good over the last four days … if they continue everything will be Well, if they do not take train cars of 25 percent come to the US "He also said.

He also said that he considered separate financial sanctions against drugs "coming in through the southern border and killing our people", even though he did not specify what these penalties would be.
