Tinder Fire Information: Evacuations ordered, estimated 8,000 acres burned

HAPPY JACK, AZ – Evacuations have been ordered for the North Arizona community due to Tinder Fire burning near Happy Jack.

LOCATION: 2.5 miles northeast of Blue Ridge Reservoir

START EVACUATION INFORMATION: According to officials from Coconino County, evacuations were ordered Sunday by the Coconino County Sheriff Office for the Associated Communities North, East and West of Highway 87 including the Moqui Ranchettes, all Starlight Pines, Clear Creek (except 1

and 2), all of Timber Ranch, the entire Tamarron, Pine Canyon, Blue Ridge Estates, Ponderosa Pine, and Mogollon Ranches.

Evacuation will continue until further notice, deputies will stay in the area to provide 24 hour security.

Residents with questions about evacuation are asked to call 928-679-8393.

SUMMARY: The fire has burned an estimated 8,623 hectares and burns 1.5 miles northeast of the Blue Ridge Reservoir. Structures have also gone lost in the fire, according to the Coconino National Forest.

According to fire officers, about 500 people, including 7 hotshot staff, fight the fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

An evacuation site has been established at Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort, 22181 Resort Blvd, Flagstaff, AZ 86004. Small animals evacuated to this site. The original location was at Winslow Junior High but was later moved due to the smoke in the area.

County officials say big animals are accepted at Holbrook Navajo County Fairgrounds.

Coconino County Health Officers encourage Winslow and Holbrook residents to take precautionary measures from the health effects of smoke smoke.

Runs have been issued for SR 87 near the evacuation zone.
