Researchers had planned to roll out a new update of the World Magnetic Model (WMM) on January 15 due to increased fluctuations in the Earth's magnetic field. But because of the US Government's suspension, this has been delayed.

Although the magnetic north pole – unlike the geographic North Pole – constantly moves, the magnetic field changes faster than the researchers had previously predicted, according to a report published by the scientific journal Nature this week.
