An Arizona woman walking off the trail at Mather Point in Grand Canyon National Park tried to take photos when she fell to her death, the park says.
Maria A. Salgado Lopez, 59, of Scottsdale, wandered Friday afternoon when she accidentally fell outside Mather Point, the park said in a press release.
Park Rangers responded and found her body about 100 feet below the point.
“An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner̵
The park reminded visitors over the weekend of July 4th about safety guidelines.
“The staff at Grand Canyon National Park encourages all visitors to have a safe visit this weekend by stopping on designated paths and walkways, always keeping a safe distance from the edge of the ledge and staying behind the railings and fences at view,” the park says.
