No wind farm at Linth: The U-turn surprised everyone

by Ueli Weber

On Saturday, Ralph Egeter was still at the "Linthwind" venue at Glarner Messe. The project manager patiently explained to visitors why wind turbines in Lintheben would be good. In fact, Glarus Nord's citizens will vote in spring over the wind farm in the spring – and the Egeters company, St. Gallic-Appenzellische Kraftwerke AG (SAK), delivering a hard voting battle against wind resistance (this newspaper is reported several times). At that time, Egeter did not suspect that Glarner Regierungsrat had shot down the wind turbine the day before.

He will not find out until Monday morning: The government of Glarus repeals the Linth area as a possible place for wind farms. Near villages she does not want to allow wind turbines anymore. If there is no other surprising turn on Landrat, the project "Linthwind" is dead. The plan is the highest cantonal planning instrument. The municipality of Glarus Nord would then no longer vote.

Compensation Open

Government decision has surprised SAK: The company is behind Linthwind. "We are really disappointed," says spokesman Roger Tinner. SAK content can not comment on the decision yet. "We can only note it right now," says Tinner. You will now analyze the situation in peace. "It's still not finished."

Since 2004, the Linth area has been listed as a "wind farm of interest" in the plan. How much SAK has invested in the project in recent years, Tinner could not say. He also could not comment on whether the company could claim damages. In any event, the Government Chancellor Kaspar Becker, responsible for the roadmap, is not afraid of any claim for damages (see "Six Questions to …".)

The Linth gegen Wind Association fights heavily for the wind turbine project. But its President Daniel Lienhard does not want to tell a victory. "We are happy and have come one step closer to our goal," he says. "The cork pops, but only when" Linthwind "has definitely failed." Lienhard rescues that wind turbines are being taken up by the district after all, back in the plan.

City Council has the last speech

In fact, Glarus District Council Layout is planning the last word. Kantonal MPs can not change individual formulations. But you can reject all the chapters of the government council. But they do not have much time. By June 201

9, the federation must have approved Glarus Roadmap.
