A nanoparticle syringe directly into the affected common breeds hopes in arthrosis. Therapy stabilizes not only osteoarthritis, but can restore joint function, according to studies at the University of Geneva.
The researchers turned to drugs that have already undergone clinical trials but failed because of side effects. Patients received the drug orally in these studies . As a result, only a small amount of active ingredients actually worked in the affected joint.

Specifically, the scientists of Geneva refer to cartagenin a molecule that can regenerate cartilage. The cartogen is captured as a nanocrystal in microparticles. These microparticles, consisting of [biodegradable polymer] can be injected directly into the joint. These microparticles remain there for several months and are gradually released from the carcase. This in turn builds the cartilage tissue. The nanocrystals can deliver the drug for an extended period without causing inflammation.
Mice have succeeded
"The goal is not only to stabilize the joint, but to make it fully operational again," said Pierre Maudens, leading author of several articles published in the journals "Drug Discovery Today", "Small" "Journal of Controlled Release" and "Nanoscale". This has already been achieved in experiments on mice.
The researchers also adopted hyaluronic acid already used today to lubricate arthritic leads to some extent. This relieves the pain, but has no therapeutic effect.
