The most affected were 20-30 year old men. Altogether, almost three times as many men were affected as women. In the previous years, according to the message, the gender ratio was almost balanced.
How the affected person may have been infected was reported to only 63 people. 39 mentioned food is usually mentioned as source. Second place (15 times) and excluding men were cited sexual contact. According to FOPH, this proportion was significantly lower in previous years.
Spread spread more likely abroad
The possible infection site was only present in 81 cases. The largest number of 49 cases were reported abroad, with Spain (nine cases) followed first by France (five cases) and Italy (four cases). In 32 cases, it was assumed that the infection took place in Switzerland. There is a vaccine against hepatitis A. However, 96 percent of the 78 people who reported vaccination status were not vaccinated against the disease.
Hepatitis A is acute hepatitis. The virus is eliminated with acquired infections and transmitted either through direct contact from one person to another or indirectly by contaminated food or contaminated drinking water. The BAG surveys are based on information from laboratories and doctors who have to report their cases to federal public health authorities in accordance with the registration obligation.
