Erlkönig shows up with Brembo brakes

Hot-Hatch fans with a soft spot for products from the Volkswagen Group can be prepared for some things: Different powerful new products are on the agenda, as VW not only launches the next-generation Golf GTI and R 2020 but Seat also provides a hot Leon on the market through his recently founded Cupra badge. These derivatives will go about a year after the appearance of the usual models, it should behave in the same way in the next Skoda Octavia RS.

Erlkönig pictures now show the Spanish member of the trio who, like his Czech RS cousin, is a more practical variant with the addition "ST" will produce. The new Cupra Leon looks sharper than ever, lies low and stands out with red Brembocalipers on the front axle. However, the prototype still seems to lack the standard body of the Cupra version, as the car looks almost like the usual Seat Leon, whose unveiling is due in September at the IAA in Frankfurt.

Apart from lowering and Brembo brakes, there is another important reference to a Cupra model by Leon. We are talking about double outlet pipes on the back. Cupra still uses the rear bumper on the production car and simply makes cutouts for the two exhaust hatches, but it goes without saying that the latter will be neatly integrated in the production model to look much better.

Sats announced a few months ago -Chef Luca de Meo plans to electrify the next Cupra Leon by implementing a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It is possible that we will see two variants of Cupra Leon, one with the PHEV installation and a basic model without electrified installation.

Plug-in Hybrid Cupra Leon is expected to offer a combined power of at least 242 hp, as evidenced by the Cupra Formentor Coupe SUV concept, there is also a four-wheel drive Cupra Leon R that reaches 300 horsepower.

The standard Leon will be sold sometime next year and will be supplemented with a Cupra variant by the end of 2020.
