Due to power outages: Baby boom in Lake Zurich's Municipality of Männedorf

The two hospitals Zollikerberg and Männedorf register a new birthplace. Remarkable: Nine months earlier, electricity was often lost.

Männedorf ZH Lake Zurich has registered a rapid increase in the number of newborns in the past year. Last year, a total of 2800 children were born in the Meilen district. Both the hospital Zollikerberg and Männedorf hospital registered more births than in 2017.

While 2248 newborns were born at Zollikerberg's hospital last year – 1170 boys and 1078 girls, there were 552 children at the Männedorf hospital. Both hospitals record a new record for 2018 births. At Zollikerberg Hospital 192 more children were born, there were 17 more at the Männedorf Hospital.

Birth rates for other hospitals are based on the theory

Not so innocent child boom can be power outages. Because if the TV suddenly stops, other activities in the household should come forward. "The most fertile month last year was in August August. Almost nine months before there were several power outages in Männedorf and the surrounding area," says Margaret Hüsler, gynecologist's chief physician at Männedorf's hospital, to "Zürichsee-Zeitung" .

The theory of the chief physician is substantiated by the birth rates of the other hospitals around Lake Zurich. The figures show that the peak values in the births of Paracelsus Hospital Richterswil were recorded in completely different months. Therefore, May was the birth month of 2018, as the local director declared for the "Zürichsee-Zeitung."

Unlike the other two hospitals, Richterswil has not set a new record for the year 2018. There was also a drop of 128 births. A total of 507 children were born in Paracelsus hospital last year – 260 boys and 247 girls. (Row) [19659020]
