Spotify adds recommended commands to Google Assistant

One of the most common uses for smart speakers is streaming music, and now Spotify's experience on Google Assistant is upgrading. If you now use Spotify with a Google Assistant device, the recommended content is just a voice command away.

Now live on all Google Assistant devices including home audio and Nest screens, these new commands make it easy to quickly play and find new content based on your taste. A command like "Hi Google, play recommended music" will find a song that matches your listening history immediately.

These new recommended commands only work for Spotify users who have their Google Assistant language set to English which means it is not restricted to the US only. But above all, this only works for Spotify Premium subscribers.

From today, listening to Spotify on your Google Home device just got even more personal. When global users now set Spotify Premium as the default listening option on a Google Home device, they will be able to receive recommendations for discovering music with specific voice commands for Spotify. All users who have set English as their Google Assistant default language can access the commands.
Simply say, Hey Google

  • Recommend some music
  • Play recommended music
  • Find recommended music

If that's not really what you're looking for, you can say, Hello Google,

  • Play something (different / different)
  • Try something (different / different)
