An Illinois state trooper has been killed while on duty to respond to a I-294 traffic accident in the Northbrook area. State police and sources said.
The crash occurred shortly after 6 am on the north-west I-294 near Willow Road, which troops responded to a crash and were hit by a vehicle, said a statement by the Illinois State Police.
According to a source familiar with the event, the trooper was assigned to the Tollway District, has died.
The troop had been taken to Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview where he was thought to be dead, said Amy Ferguson, spokesman for the hospital.
The last Illinois State Police killed in service was Ryan Albin, who died in June 201
On March 28, 2013, Trooper James Sauter, 28, Vernon Hills was killed while serving on I-294 near Northbrook. His police car had been parked on the shoulder of the southern lanes when the driver of the semi-tractor trailer hit it, the authorities said earlier. The impact drive Sauter's vehicle at least 500 meters along the median before it erupted in flames.
