SEOUL – There will be a splash of reading on TIME100 calls this month. According to South Korean pop culture news Soompi, Red Velvet’s Irene and Seulgi will perform at the event next week.
TIME100 Talks, organized by Time Magazine, is an online conference series that brings together an ensemble of trailblazers and leaders from a variety of fields.
The conversation began in April this year and hopes to highlight innovative solutions to problems facing the world during the 2000s and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration.
The next episode, which will be released next Tuesday (Aug. 1
Other participants include former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, African Leadership Group CEO Fred Swaniker, and of course Red Velvet’s new sub-unit, Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi.
According to TIME, the duo will treat participants with a special performance. Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi released their first expanded game, Monster, last month.
This is not the first time a K-pop group has performed in the TIME100 Talks series. In June, the South Korean boy group MONSTA X delighted fans with performances of Someone’s Someone (2020) and FLOW (2020) at the TIME 100 Talks: Finding Hope conference, which discussed the rebuilding of the post-pandemic economy.
Nor is this Red Velvet’s first participation in a prestigious diplomatic event. SM Entertainment’s four-member girl group, formed in 2014, was the only K-pop group to perform for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during 2018’s Spring Is Coming concert – a peace concert aimed at improving relations between the two Koreas – in Pyongyang.
