SEC Soccer Field 2020: Florida-Texas A&M, Auburn-Tennessee Leads New Announcements for Conference Games

Which SEC program would gain the most by leaving the conference?

The SEC announced last week that it will play a 10-game conference schedule only this season due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The focus immediately turned to the biggest question: Which two opponents are added to each team’s schedule? That question was answered on Friday when the conference announced the new opponents for all 1

4 of its teams.

Each SEC team plays a permanent rival in the cross-division and another opponent in the cross-division under normal circumstances. This year’s format requires two more rotating cross-division opponents in addition to the cross-division opponent that was already on each team’s schedule.

“We did everything we could to create a schedule that is as competitive as possible and builds on the existing eight conference games that had already been planned for 2020,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement. “This schedule is a one-year deviation that we have developed under unique circumstances presented by the effects of COVID-19.”

Here’s a look at the two additional opponents that are added to each SEC team’s schedule.

The full week-by-week SEC schedule will be released next week and will not necessarily have scheduled opponents playing on the same date as previously announced. It will begin in the traditional week of September 4, 26 and end with the SEC Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on December 19, two weeks later than originally planned.

Each SEC team will have a village week on December 12 – one week before the championship. This week can be used to compensate for all games affected by the COVID-19 pandemic or as an extra week for teams to prepare for the conference title match.
