Netflix original Umbrella Academy is a refreshing take on the superhero genre – absent from hypermasculinity, gender norms and immortal altruism. Rather, there are a bunch of dysfunctional siblings trying to prevent an imminent apocalypse – while wearing makeup and playing with the space continuum. They have lots of dads in general and trust issues, making their great powers an extension of their daily rituals and obstacles to life rather than defining characteristics. They are not heroes but rather individuals who are forced into heroism.

The first two seasons of ‘The Umbrella Academy’ followed the same formula
The first two seasons of Umbrella Academy may have had some major differences – especially in the dynamic area of the family. As the siblings grew closer during the previous season, the follow-up could examine their interpersonal relationships a little more heavily. But in the storytelling department, the two were quite synonymous.

In both parts, an apocalypse is imminent, Vanya is at the center of the destruction, and the siblings must find a way to save Vanya, save the world, and leave human history largely intact. Doesn’t sound like too much for a couple of Hargreeves kids.
The first two seasons focused on preventing doomsday. Still, the season two finale and available information about the comic book track (on which the show is based) means that season 3 can explore unseen territory.

What will happen during season 3 of ‘The Umbrella Academy?’
Season 2 of Umbrella Academy ends with Hargreeves back in 2019, but their father is alive once again, and he has assembled a new team of elite heroes – The Sparrow Academy. Ben is one of the main members. It is likely that Reginald, when he met his original choices already in the 60s, chose to go in a different direction with his children’s academy.
As Screen Rant notes, season 3 of Umbrella Academy (once confirmed) will see the Hargreeves children deal with a changed past – different from their memory and missing their childhood home. Instead of confronting an apocalypse, the team will confront a new academy, with a leader they know and love (Ben) who has no idea who they are. Will the two teams merge to defeat the villains together, or will the old and new Hargreeves children clash over how to save the world? Will it be a heroic battle?
A struggle to re-establish the timeline they know may be implemented, or Hargreeves may be forced to live on from 2019, where their previous years alive are only known to them. However, the team seems unlikely to face an apocalypse this time. Rather, the conflict leaders will come from an external source, in contrast to Vanya once again.
