Ryan Reynolds or Mr. Paul McCartney may become the next head of a first nation in Canada … the indigenous community has spoken, and the famous non-natives are up for election.
Ryan and Paul have been nominated as head of Walpole Island First Nation, a reservation embedded on an island bordering Michigan and Canada … according to indigenous chief operating officer, James Jenkins.
He tells TMZ … the actor and rock icon was nominated by 2 eligible voters this weekend, who immediately qualifies the celebrities as official nominees for Chief.
It’s quite interesting … we say Ryan and Paul do not need to be technically part of the original society to be nominated or even rise to the top as Chief. There was a loophole from the road back in 1868, when Walpole Island First Nation elected a non-member as chief, creating a precedent that allowed non-members to run for Chief.
Now Ryan and Sir Paul just have to get started. Actually, they are already on, but we’re told they have until Thursday to contact the Walpole Island member office to get their names removed. If the deadline goes by without looking from either, we say that they will both remain legitimate candidates for Chief when the election is held on September 19.
If one of them wins, First Nation would contact them, and Chief Ryan or Chief Paul would have to take office or resign.
The intention behind the nominations remains unclear, and we say that there are mixed feelings about it. Some members believe that either has things to be an effective leader because of their very successful entertainment career.
What else would you think after seeing ‘Van Wilder’ … right? And that’s why others think their nominations are an inappropriate joke.
The boss, we say, is similar to the chairman … they are the head of the council and the voice of society, whose job it is to oversee programs and services administered by administrators. Of course, we say that Chief is the most respected position in Walpole Island First Nation, which has about 5,000 members.
Walpole Island is no stranger to celebrities … we’re told Cher and Kid Rock have spent a lot of time in the area, fishing and duck hunting.
One last warning … we say that Ryan or Paul would probably need to move close to the reservation if he is elected manager. Sorry, you can not attend Zoom family meetings.
Ryan is at least Canadian, so that gives him a leg up, but … Paul is a Beatle.
