Rumors of Google Pixel 4A and 4A XL: These are the most compelling to date

Last May, Google launched Pixel 3A and 3A XL. It was the Pixel phones’ first lead to a more affordable console – and maybe Google’s return to the cheaper Nexus days. Priced at hundreds of dollars less than its main Pixel 3 flagship counterpart, the Pixel 3A phones shaved off key features such as wireless charging and water resistance. But it remained a viable option for Android users looking for a lower-cost Pixel phone experience.

The strategic movement worked and Pixel 3A doubled Google’s Pixel sales of that summer. As such, we expect sequels to the Pixel 3A phones, which would probably be called Pixel 4A and 4A XL, coming soon. Google already said it will announce a beta version of Android 11 via an online event on June 3 and could use the same event to announce Pixel 4A. In addition, Google’s rivals released a number of their own mid-range phones. Only in April did Apple launch its new $ 399 iPhone SESamsung announced its next range of spaces Galaxy A phones and Motorola debuted under $ 300 Moto G Power and G Stylus. Now, more than ever, phone manufacturers are targeting people with tighter budgets, who otherwise might just have stuck to their old phone for another year.

In anticipation of Google’s expected announcement of Pixel 4A and 4A XL, we gathered the most compelling and interesting rumors about the devices. And until launch, check back often when we update the roundup.

Pixel 4A Price: $ 399 probably looks

Last year’s Pixel 3A cost $ 399, £ 399 and $ 649; The 3A XL cost $ 479, £ 469 and $ 799. It would not be surprising if Google retained the same pricing model this year for its Pixel 4A phones. The reasons are twofold: Raising the price of a device specifically targeted at more budget users would be a strange move. Second, premium phone manufacturers seem to consider $ 399 as a good price tag. Apple’s new iPhone SE, for example, is $ 399 as is Samsung’s Galaxy A51, which is the most advanced phone of the latest Galaxy A series. ONE hollow sign showing $ 399 price published by tech leaker Evan Blass also noted the same price.

Also Stephen Hall of 9to5Google tweeted that the Pixel 4A could be even cheaper, starting at $ 349 instead. This would make it even more competitive against the iPhone SE and would attract more budget users.

Pixel 4A running Android 10, maybe Android 11?

Google usually presents its latest mobile operating system in May, during its annual developer conference known as Google I / O
. However, because of COVID-19, that person is worried the event was canceled this year. Instead, the company will remove the cover from the beta version of Android 11 via an online event on June 3. Google could use the same event to announce Pixel 4A as it did last year for Pixel 3A and Google I / O 2019 (more about this possible launch date below). Optimistically, Pixel 4A could run the final version of Android 11 right out of the box. However, the timeline may be too short. What may happen instead is that Pixel 4A runs Android 10 when it comes in user’s hand, but will be updated to Android 11 later. This would make sense since last year, Pixel 3A was running Android 9, which was released publicly in 2018, even though the third beta version of Android 10 was announced the same day as Pixel 3A at I / O.

Pixel 4A release date: May be May, June or July

With the launch of Pixel 3A as the only reference to continue, it is difficult to determine an exact launch date for Pixel 4A. If Google holds at least the same month, we can start the possible launch date in May, although the end of the month is soon approaching. (A report from the German website Caschy’s Blog went a step further and said the phone was to be launched on May 22 in Europe, but this did not turn out to be true.)

However, given that Google said it will announce Android 11 at an online event on June 3, it could also mean that the phone will be unveiled then. This would make sense given that tech companies usually do not have two notable product launches every month. Still others say it may come even later. David Ruddock from Android Police, for example, tweeted that the phone would be delayed until July.

Pixel 4A design: Maybe punching camera, headphone jack

There is no way to know how the Pixel 4A officially looks at this point, though rendered images of the device from Indian technology website 91Mobiles shows the phone with a punch camera and headphone jack. The punching camera would be in line with the aforementioned signage signs and is a trendy design found on the latest Galaxy S20 and OnePlus 8 phones. Adopted leaked images of Google’s Pixel 4A wallpaper, reported by XDA Developers and YouTube channel TecnoLike Plus, also suggest a punching camera. Holding the headphone jack would not be too unexpected as Pixel 3A also has one. However, as more and more phones do not have the audio port, including Pixel 4, Google can go either way with holding it or leaving it on Pixel 4A.

Will the Pixel 4A also have the big Pixel 4 camera?

Pixel 4A Camera: Can have the same dual cameras as Pixel 4

One of the most compelling things about Pixel 3A was that it had the same excellent camera as Pixel 3, and it would make sense for Google to package Pixel 4A with the same camera hardware as Pixel 4. It can contain two rear cameras (a 12.2- standard megapixel camera and a 16-megapixel telephoto lens) as well as an 8-megapixel forward-facing camera. But don’t be too surprised if Google decides to mix it up by not copying itself exactly. Last year, it did not transfer the second wide-angle forward-facing camera that was on Pixel 3 to Pixel 3A, and it debuted a timed video mode on Pixel 3A that was new to Pixel phones.

Pixel 4A and 5G connection?

When Google launched Pixel 4 and 4 XL in October 2019, the company revealed no 5G plans and has not revealed any 5G plans since. It would be surprising if the company decided that the mid-level Pixel 4A would be the first 5G phone; one would think it would save a markup feature for the upcoming flagship Pixel 5 (expected in October). But thanks to Qualcomm’s more affordable Snapdragon 765 chipset, cheaper phones can have 5G connectivity and cheap 5G phones are already available, like Coolpad Legacy 5G and that TCL 10 5G, so it’s not out of the way.
