“Where’s the iPhone 12?” That’s what everyone will ask of us on Tuesday, September 8, when the new iPads and Apple Watch 6 arrive without a new iPhone.
It’s at least our analysis of the world’s collective reaction that sometimes right-wing Apple leaker, Jon Prosser, has nailed the timeline. He tweeted a list of the weeks that Apple is expected to announce and release new hardware.
This is not good news if you are anxious to get hold of the acclaimed iPhone 12 Pro 5G. That version comes latest in things.
If true, the Apple Watch 6 and new iPads will come first ̵
Assuming Prosser’s release window is correct, we expect the day to be Tuesday, September 8, as September 7 is a Monday and Labor Day holiday. It’s also the time frame that Apple usually has with a major launch event. But no new iPhone is mentioned for this first release date.
Note We do not expect the “new iPads” to include advanced Pro models. We got an iPad Pro 2020 in March, which sets the stage for an iPad Pro 2021 with 5G. Instead, the mid-range iPads – iPad Air 4 and iPad mini 6 – are suspected to launch next.
Delay for iPhone 12
The launch date for iPhone 12 is said to be five weeks later, the week of October 12 (it may be Tuesday, October 13). This is not a big surprise, as Apple in its revenue call last month took the rare step of announcing the iPhone 12 delay.
The iPhone 12 reveals is said to be coming to an “event”. Whether it’s a personal launch event or another “Apple live stream” video that we saw with WWDC 2020 remains to be seen. We expect four versions of the new iPhone to appear.
Some pre-orders will be launched the same week – we forecast Friday 16 October. Apple has a history of putting up pre-orders on Friday immediately after a launch event. And it is said that the iPhone 12 will be sold next week – so Friday 23 September.
But according to Prosser, the advanced iPhone 12 Pro will not be available in October at all. Instead, this version will have a pre-order and release date in November, with the leak saying “no exact date yet” is “in the system.”
November is very late for a new iPhone, especially the versions (we expect two sizes) that early adopters want. Pro is rumored to have the fastest 5G speeds, the largest screens and the best cameras.
But this is not the first time in recent history that Apple’s latest and best iPhone has slipped into November. The iPhone X was launched on Friday, November 3, 2017.
Prosser nailed the iPhone SE 2020 release date and had the iMac 27-inch (2020) announcement in advance, but he got many Apple WWDC leaks incorrectly, noting that the dates could always be changed at the end of Apple.
