Red Dead Online player jumps into the game yesterday and has today discovered something awful and strange: piles of burned horse bodies outside some cities, like valentine. Many are surprised to find these piles and it seems to be the result of a newly discovered duplication.
The first reports of this disturbing bug went up Saturday night and since then over Reddit and Twitter the players shared pictures and stories of the dead horses. Some players reported the error to the Rockstar support's Twitter account.
Another player was crawling out of how strange the pile appeared. "You can't shoot at piles of burnt rotten dead horses, but if you shoot near them, the loud sounds" explained a Reddit user on PS4 in a post titled "What is this Lovecraftian shit."
Players seem to believe the weird cavity was created by a newly discovered duplication, which allowed players to catch a large fish and then use a method involving their horse, clone fishing in their inventory. Some report that this error may be partially fixed by a Rockstar hotfix or server update. Some players point to empty cities and a lack of NPC spawning as a sign of a temporary fix by Rockstar. The idea is that they turn off gods for animals and NPCs to stop players from abusing any problems.
But there is no confirmation that Rockstar Games has actually fixed or changed anything in Red Dead Online . I went out to Rockstar and will update this post if I hear anything back.
While the bug appears to be more widespread on PlayStation 4, some players also report dead horses on the Xbox One.
The horses are not just unpleasant. They actually cause performance issues, with many reporting framerate dips and frequent server shutdowns. How much of this is tied directly to the dupe bug and dead horses is hard to say, but it seems that RDO is less stable right now.
Something that resembled this happened earlier this year after the players used a dupe glitch to protest against a [RD] update that they disliked.
