Rami Malek responds to allegations of sexual abuse around Bryan Singer, the ousted director of the Academy Award-nominated Queen's biopsy "Bohemian Rhapsody."

Shortly after he made an Oscar node for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury, Malek clarified that he wrote on the project before Singer, who has been repeatedly accused of sexual assault on younger teenage boys.

"As far as I knew, I was convinced before Bryan was even attached," said Malek Los Angeles Times in an interview published Tuesday. "So I had my head ready for this about a year before and I never looked up."

Malek, whose cartoon credits include the television series "Mr. Robot," admitted that he "didn't know much" about the singer when he was appointed director of the biographical film.

"I think the allegations and things were, believe it or not, honestly I wasn't aware, and that's what it is," Malek said.

Singer was fired by Fox during the last few weeks of the film and was replaced by "Eddie the Eagle" director Dexter Fletcher. Malek credited Fletcher with "when we really needed someone to look through it" and expressed his gratitude for the cast and crew.

"Somehow we found a way to go through everything thrown at us. Maybe it was Freddie himself who did it because we wanted to make a product worthy of him," Malek said. "I'm just proud that this role and crew collectively raised their game and we depended on each other."
