Each year Queen Elizabeth has a summer trip at Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands. Other members of the royal family usually join her, including Prince William and Kate Middleton. But things can be different this year.
Prince William and Middleton are reportedly considering delaying the trip to avoid meeting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
What happens to Cambridge and Sussexes?
According to The Daily Mail's veteran royal expert Robert Jobson, Cambridge is upset over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle over two things. The first has to do with one of Prince Harry's most recent comments. He said in an interview that he and Markle would not have more than two children to save the environment. While that may seem like a fair statement, Jobson said it may have offended Cambridges, "which already has three [kids]."
The second issue revolves around Markle's decision not to appear on the cover of her guest-edited September issue of British Vogue. She reportedly declined because she did not want to appear "bulky" – and some interpreted the comment as shadowing on Middleton, which appeared on the cover of Vogue as early as 2016.
"What will have [fueled] William and Kate's concern is also Meghan's effort as a guest editor for British Vog's September issue, "Jobson explained." The Duchess insisted that it would have been "boastful" to appear on the cover – but could not mention that Kate became the cover star of the fashion Bible two years earlier. "
Prince William and Middleton could still avoid Prince Harry and Markle if they decide to go
According to Jobson, Balmoral is so huge that the couple probably wouldn't bump into each other anyway. "If their stays coincide, families could easily avoid each other," Jobson explained. He noted that Cambridges had planned to stay in a cottage, while Sussexes stayed in a separate house.
But they would miss an important event
The queen reportedly throws Markle a birthday tea. So if Prince William and Middleton delay their journey, they will probably miss a sweet moment.
"They will celebrate Meghan's birthday [on Aug. 4] and the catering team will bake a cake to mark the occasion," a source previously told The Sun.
It is also Sussex's first family trip to the Scottish Highlands. So Cambridge would also miss some potentially valuable Kodak moments with baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
It's a pretty unfortunate update. But this is not the first time they have had problems. Things went south in 2017 when Prince William expressed doubts about Meghan Markle following her swift engagement with Prince Harry. And more recently, they swept when Prince Harry and Markle decided to share Cambridges households.
Sigh . If the latest report is accurate, they will calculate it soon. Can we get a group hug?
