A measles outbreak spreads over a Washington county that is known to choose not to vaccinate their children and health care professionals have explained a public health situation.

At least 18 additional places where people may have been exposed to measles were identified Saturday in Oakland County, according to the county health department.

On Thursday, the division had released a list of more than 25 exposures between 14-14 March. The additional pages drive the exposure timeline to 21 March.

There have been at least five confirmed cases of the highly contagious disease and three other suspected cases being investigated. Health officials said that a traveler from Israel, who was infected, may have spread the virus during visits to Oakland County from March 6 through March 6.

If you do not have a record of two measles (MMR) vaccines, uncertain if you have been vaccinated or are unsure if you have had measles before, contact your health care provider, ”said Leigh-Anne Stafford, Oakland County Health Care Professionals in a press release. [19659000] People are advised to watch for symptoms 21 days after potential exposure Symptoms include:

  • High fever (may nail to over 104 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • Cough
  • Running nose
  • Red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis )
  • Small white patches on the inner cheeks, gums and roots of the mouth (Koplik Spots) two to three days after the onset of symptoms
  • A rash that is red, raised, spotted, usually on the face, spreads to luggage, arms and legs 3-5 days after the onset of symptoms

Those who visited the sites during the specified times and dates can receive vaccination on Sunday.
