What to expect
Following the PS5 unveiling stream in June, the updates for Sony’s latest console have been narrow. That is unlikely to change this week either, as the company has warned fans not to expect any major PS5 announcements. It includes updates to PlayStation Studios titles such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West. This also means PS5 price will not be discussednor PS5 release date, as both Sony and Microsoft continue to stick to pre-orders.
The event will primarily focus on upcoming PS4 and PlayStation VR games that will still be launched soon. Although the announcement mentions any updates for third parties PS5 games, the wording explicitly states that the main focus of the stream will be current gene titles and not next-gene titles. Any third-party PS5 title updates will be for games previously revealed to the console and not for new announcements.
Sony revealed a little more information about its PS5 hardware plans, especially what accessories and peripherals will be compatible with the next Gen console. Although you will be able to use your DualShock 4 on PS5, you will not be able to use it for PS5 titles, and degrade its use to backwards compatible games.
Microsoft is also expected to hold another Xbox event sometime in August, hot on the heels of its presentation in late July that saw the game reveal about Halo Infinite. It has been suggested that Microsoft’s event will focus on its highly regarded second next gen console, codenamed Lockhart, but no official announcement has been made yet.
