MANILA, Philippines – House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano reiterated that every vote must and will be based on the estimation of facts, as they have been presented by both sides during the exhaustive procedure, as well as the application of relevant laws and public order.

In a statement, the House management rejects the rumors of threats and threats that come from certain groups, even linking them to specific religious organizations and congress leaders.

“It’s completely false and is an unproductive exercise to try to manipulate the vote to favor a certain decision,” Cayetano said.

He also emphasized that these “clumsy attempts at thought conditioning” which clearly represent a “threat to the Committee’s fairness and impartiality”.

“By trying to poison the well of public opinion, those who spread this propaganda are trying to blackmail Congress to adhere to their demands,” he added.

As committee members begin to consider their final vote on the network’s fate in the coming days after summarizing the arguments for and against the renewal, we advise all sides to continue advocating, but never to engage in black propaganda and fake news.

Cayetano noted that since the start of the procedure, the house’s management has advocated a fair, open and impartial hearing. In addition, he has also urged colleagues to cast a “conscience vote” in accordance with the ABS-CBN franchise fee.
