Ellen DeGeneres has a problem. After several years of rumored speculation that her squeaky clean image was not all it was cracked to be, several reports have surfaced highlighting serious problems with behavior and harassment behind the scenes on her talk show on the day.
Now the embedded entertainer is at a crossroads. Can she weather the storm in an era where “interrupting culture” claims the careers of many who have either acted badly or otherwise slipped up?
It’s unclear right now if DeGeneres will do this with his show intact. In light of this, some media have begun to speculate about a potential replacement for her as host of the show. However, some fans think that it does not even matter because the end of the show may be too long.

DeGeneres came to fame as a hilarious stand-up comedian in the 80s and 90s. As with the most popular stand-ups of her time, DeGeneres eventually got a sitcom.
Her ABC sitcom, titled Ellen broke ground by having the first scene with a character coming out of the closet. DeGeneres used the show as a platform to announce that she was gay, both in character on the show and in real life. To this day, it is considered an important milestone for the LGBT community.
After the cancellation of the sitcom, DeGeneres continued to appear and appear in TV shows and movies. One of her more famous performances was the role of Dory in Pixars Finding Nemo.
Eventually, she was hired to host her own talk show on the day: Ellen DeGeneres Show. The show has been a great success for DeGeneres. Her pleasant, sensitive interview style has proved very popular with fans. She has mainly been considered as this generation’s version of Oprah Winfrey.
The controversy surrounding DeGeneres and her show
For several years, the internet revolved around rumors that DeGeneres was not as friendly as her on-screen behavior would indicate. A report from the New York Post entitled “Ellen is not as nice as she wants you to believe, insiders confess” painted a picture of a star living in a protected bubble.
A Twitter thread with many (unconfirmed) stories about her treating people harshly called her “notoriously one of the most meaningful people alive.” All this, however, was auditory queue and speculation.
That changed when BuzzFeed ran a report in which she claimed that her show had an environment “where sexual harassment and misconduct by top executives run superfluous.” BuzzFeed spoke to 36 former employees of the show. This report went far beyond DeGeneres’ alleged penchant for treating people less than ideally.
This aroused serious accusations among the producers on her show (and, in an important distinction to make, NOT DeGeneres) of very unethical and in some cases illegal behavior. DeGeneres released an apology for the bad deeds and promised to do better.
Who can replace Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show of the day?
If the reports about DeGeneres and her show are true, the best case scenario is that she failed to notice rude behavior and harassment within her own staff. The less beneficial conclusion to reach is that she saw it but looked the other way.
In any case, people are not happy and rumors have started circulating on the internet about a potential compensation. Several outlets, including Cosmopolitan, reported that talk show host James Corden in the evening is rumored to be working to replace DeGeneres if she were to be fired.
Some fans do not care in one way or another that replaces her. A Reddit thread dedicated to identifying a potential replacement contained several responses indicating that no one should replace her, as the show itself is subpar. Could it be that this generation of viewers has passed a show like this off?
With more and more people than ever consuming their media via the internet and smartphones, a talk show of the day seems like a relic of the past. It is unclear whether DeGeneres will be replaced on the show, but she may instead be on the verge of cancellation – with her show moved to obsolescence.
