New Cowboys pass rusher Aldon Smith up to nearly 290 pounds after four-year suspension from NFL

If and when Aldon Smith actually returns to an NFL field, the former San Francisco 49ers All-Pro will probably look a little different. According to Fox Sports Jay Glazer, who helped train the new Dallas Cowboys supplement during his comeback attempt, the former draft first round is up to nearly 290 pounds after his four-year hiatus from professional football.

Glazer, it should be noted, is nothing but proud of Smith’s new weight, which is up to 287 from his latest official 265-pound measurement. As Sports Illustrated̵

7;s Mike Fisher reported, Glazer helped Smith in particular Try to buy up for his return.

“We trained him on Unbreakable Performance and got him up to about 287 pounds, fully cleaned up, though that may be, very low body fat,” Glazer told Fisher. “He’s been training his butt. His conditioning is amazing … He’s just a freaking monster … He’s an absolute freak of nature. I don’t know who to compare him to, because he’s 287 with one (vertical). It is ridiculous. ”

Smith has not yet officially reinstated the NFL, though CBS Sports previously reported The Cowboys expect NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to grant the 30-year-old new eligibility following a suspension in 2015 that kept him sidelined for another four full seasons. With a much larger frame, the former Pro Bowler could well see the time outside his traditional external linebacker or defensive end roles, or at least just get more power to those places.

Last seen with the Raiders in 2015, the same year that an alleged hit-and-run incident led to his release from the 49s, Smith opened his NFL career with historic production and became the fastest player to ever reach 30 career sacks. Several DUI charges and other off-field problems, including an alleged incident incident in 2018, contributed to his failed reinstatement during the 2016-18 season.
