Netflix sees the arrival of competition as "modest headwind"

Netflix still takes subscribers every day. A little less than expected, but the video service still sees plenty of growth opportunities, even now that competitors Disney + and Apple TV + begin the coming month. The platform calls it a "modest short-term headwind."

Netflix gained 6.8 million subscribers in the months of July, August and September, while it counted 7 million. This was mainly due to disappointing figures from the home country of the United States. It was 300,000 fewer than expected and this was probably due to the price increase on the subscriptions. Netflix says there are no plans to raise the price in the Netherlands.

In the rest of the world, the number of new users was just above expectations. In total, the streaming service now has more than 158 million subscribers.

Significant profit in plus

Sales in the last quarter amounted to $ 5.2 billion, converted to € 4.6 billion. This is an increase of 30 percent compared to the same period last year. Investors welcome the numbers at the moment; the company was almost 10 percent plus after the exchange.

Netflix has been able to build its streaming platform without too much competition in recent years, but that will change. Apple TV + launches November 1 and Disney + follows eleven days later. Not too much is expected of the first party; the offer is limited. On the other hand, Apple TV + becomes the cheapest of the three: 4.99 euros per month.

Disney + is particularly regarded as a major competitor to Netflix, as Disney has a large directory and requires half as much. For € 6.99, four people can stream at the same time to a maximum of 4K. You pay € 13.99 for it at Netflix in the Netherlands.

Comparison with linear TV

Netflix says in its expectations to take into account the increasing competition. In addition, the streaming service emphasizes that, like its competitors, it is small compared to linear TV in the United States. The company therefore sees many growth opportunities.
