The cancellation comes as Netflix seems to be axing more shows than it used to. It is unclear whether this should pave the way for more new material. Shows as Russian Doll Orange is the new black and One day at a time can not pull the masses but has nevertheless attracted great, culturally implications and generates cultural buzz. It is difficult to imagine many networks today that would run a show with an autistic protagonist ( Atypical ), a television reboot of a Spike Lee drama ( She's Gotta Have It ) or a Sunday range talk show ruled by a Muslim-American comedian ( Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj ).
Such a versatile and varied programming is usually reserved for Netflix, unless other streaming services such as Hulu and Amazon or a premium channel such as HBO. These latest cancellations do not necessarily mean that Netflix will not continue to be a home of niche programs – but given the large investment it makes in its original content, it is likely to be expected to yield more returns at last.

The first time I looked at ODAAT and saw myself represented on the screen in such an authentic way, I cried. This show helps thousands of lost girls like the one I was. #saveodaat pic.twitter.com/e8NerJS800
