The red flag came out during the NASCAR Cup Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday when a crash on pit road temporarily halted this afternoon’s action and injured a crew member from driver Ryan Blaney’s team. The crash on the pit road came under the caution of the competition on lap 1

6 of the race. The NBC broadcast identified the member of the No. 12 team’s pit crew as the rear tire changer Zach Price. Price changed tires on Blaney’s car when the crash happened.

Martin Truex, Ryan Blaney, Christopher Bell, Chris Buescher, Ryan Preece, Ricky Stenhouse, Justin Allgaier and Brennan Poole were all involved in the crash, according to Matt Weaver of AutoWeek. You can see the scene below via NASCAR:

While the crash was a frightening sight, the good news is that Price appeared to be in decent shape afterwards, giving up his thumb when he was loaded into an ambulance.

The red flag lasted for over 11 minutes and then the race could start again. The race had already been delayed at the beginning due to a series of lightning strikes near the track. The price will reportedly be treated for a leg injury.
