On Monday, the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art opened an exhibition event in honor of the late Jilali Gharbaoui, a forerunner of lyrical and gestural abstraction and one of the founders of artistic modernity in Morocco.
The result of an institutional collaboration between the National Museum Foundation (FNM), the Al Mada Foundation and the Attijariwafa Bank Group, this event exhibition entitled “Gharbaoui: The Flight of Roots”
; brings together more than 70 works reflecting the productive career of the artist, who has its roots in the artistic atmosphere of the 50s and 60s.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 23 September to 8 February 2021. It is enriched by a chronology reflecting the life of the late Jilali Gharbaoui, who left very young at the age of 41 (1971), and through documentation from the painter’s artistic and personal life. , including press archives, catalogs, his exhibition drawings, book projects and notes.
