Montana’s Greg Gianforte cancels campaign after wife, running mate attended event with Kimberly Guilfoyle

On Tuesday, Susan Gianforte and Kristen Juras, running for lieutenant governor, attended an event with Guilfoyle, who tested positive in South Dakota before attending President Donald Trump’s event at Mount Rushmore Friday night.

“Out of an abundance of caution and for the health and safety of others, they will quarantine, test for COVID-19 and shut down personal campaign events pending test results,” the spokesman said.

Gianforte was in Washington, DC, this week during the event when the house was in session, the spokesman said.

This is Gianforte’s second bid for the governor̵

7;s mansion after losing four years ago to current Head of State Steve Bullock, a Democrat running for Senate this year. Gianforte will face Democratic Prime Minister Mike Cooney in November.

A loyal supporter of Trump made Gianforte national headlines during his 2017 special election to Congress when he was accused of attacking a reporter. Trump praised Gianforte’s behavior at the time and said, “Any guy who can do a body slam … he’s my guy.” Gianforte eventually pleaded guilty to misconduct.
Gianforte now joins a number of congressmen who have had to self-quarantine in recent months because they have come in contact with a person who tested positive for coronavirus, while several members have tested positive themselves. Most recently, Tennessee announced the Republican Senate. Lamar Alexander a 14-day self-quarantine in May after an employee in his office tested positive.
