The creator of the Metal Gear story chose Mads Mikkelsen for the role.
On a panel at Comic-Con in San Diego, Hideo Kojima talked about his creative process with Nicolas Winding Refn, famous director and actor In his next match, Death Stranding.
One of the audience's questions revealed: Hideo Kojima confessed that he was recommended to Keanu Reeves, currently in Cyberpunk 2077. However, the Japanese director confirmed that he always loved Mads Mikkelsen, actor who plays Cliff in his game.
"Originally, I was recommended to Keanu Reeves, but I wanted Mads," Kojima said.
"People think of my games ten years later"
Both directors talked about his creative process, one from the road to video games and the other from the cinema. When asked why Death Stranding is so different from other games, Hideo Kojima said:
There is no reason to create something that is already there. I want to create something that inspires the world. Not like Hollywood movies, those who don't live with you; people just melt and consume them. What I do is something that is hard to chew when you melt it. That's what happens when I start a game or when Nicolas premiere a movie: they criticize us or they love us. But you really think about it ten years later, as with Blade Runner or 2001: Odyssey in Space.
When asked about the development of Death Stranding, Kojima said "I still create it". But to justify the time behind the development of his game, he said: "The easiest thing I could have done was to make a game where everyone is on an island and they shoot at each other."
Maybe Konami takes note and take out a Metal Gear Solid Battle Royale. I hope not ..
