There were hundreds of people in the mosque at the time of the event and a witness says he saw a man come into the mosque with an automatic rifle shooting for 10-15 minutes.
The man was reportedly weaving a black helmet.
3:25 pm: Last updated from St. John: St. John was notified of a firearm accident in Central Christchurch at 13.33 Friday afternoon.
