U.S. department store operator Kohls has contacted At Home to express interest in acquiring the American home furnishing chain. People who know the thing have said Wednesday.
An agreement would help Kohl expand its customer base, which focuses on women's, men's and children's clothing and increase their presence in the household category, which has traditionally been a small part of their business.
Kohl's stock slowed almost 2% late on Wednesday, while At Home's stock rose more than 7%.
Kohl's newly started conversation with At Home to explore a deal, the sources said. Hemma has investigated a sale in the last three months and is already in the negotiations with private equity companies, including Hellman & Friedman, announced the sources.
There is no certainty that an offer from Kohl's will will arise as a result of the preliminary discussions and At Home may return to attempting to sell itself to a buyout company, allowing the sources to not be identified, since the issue is confidential. .
Kohls and At Home did not immediately respond to the request for comment, while Hellman & Friedman refused to comment.
