Known for his critically acclaimed and award-winning performances in films like Shakespeare In Love and Philomena, Judi Dench is a certified Hollywood legend. But in the midst of COVID-19 lockdown orders, the 85-year-old has become a viral Tik Tok star, she recently revealed how the social media platform saved her life.
Judi Dench’s career is full of achievement
For almost 70 years, Dench has turned audiences with his tremendous talent. The English actor began his career in theater and then joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. After working on stage for almost 20 years, she turned to TV and film and began to secure roles in major projects.
After winning BAFTA for his performances in A room with view and A handful of dust, Dench is starting to take on major commercial films. In 1995 she stepped into the role of M in Pierce Brosnan’s James Bond film, Golden eye. She went on to surprise the role of seven more Bond films, including Daniel Craig’s iterations, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, also Downpour.

Throughout his impressive career, Dench has selected seven Oscar nominations and one win Shakespeare in Love. She has won 10 BAFTA awards, two Golden Globes, two SAG awards and a Tony Award for her achievement in Amy’s View. In 1998, Dench received the honor of Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire and then was named Dame Judi Dench.
Dench becomes a viral Tik Tok star
Earlier this year, Dench and her grandson, Sam Williams, began making videos together for Tik Tok. Their content quickly went viral and turned the movie star into a Tik Tok star overnight. In some of the films, Williams asks her grandmother snarky questions, to which she gives surprising answers.
“So, Ma, why are you telling an actor to break a leg,” he asks, expecting she doesn’t know the answer. “Because every piece must have a role,” Dench responds unnecessarily.
Other videos show the two performing viral Tik Tok dances together. Some of their videos have already received over 1 million views.
The actor says that Tik Tok saved his life
In a new chat with Channel 4 News, Dench addressed the COVID-19 lock situation and talked about how it affects those who work in theater. She also revealed that during this isolation period, Tik Tok became a great creative outlet for her and she points it out to keep her well.
“It saved my life,” she said. “I know nothing about TikTok. Sam is the person who is technically minded and who has all the ideas, so he became very strict. ”
Dench explained that, in isolation, she began to feel anxious. She said that making Tik Tok videos and staying busy with art has kept her routine.
“You wake up and wonder what day it is, then you wonder what day it is, and sometimes what month,” Dench said. “Then you think, ‘What am I doing today?’ and the outlook is, ‘Well, what to do today?’ “
“I planned to learn all the Shakespeare sonnets,” she added. “I have about nine and there are 154, so I have little way to go there. I’ve done some painting and I’ve talked to friends and practiced my TikTok and done it with Sam. “
