You've seen the prototypes, but now Ikea has set dates to showcase their first Sonos-powered Symphonic speakers. The "products" (plural) will be revealed on April 9 in Milan, before they are expected to be for sale in August.
"Ikea and Sonos have shown a prototype to the world," reads the Ikea press release "a bookshelf speaker that gives customers a well-connected speaker that enables a multifunctional home use, at an affordable price."
The cheapest Sonos speaker – Play: 1 – currently selling for $ 149.
A teaser video published by Ikea shows two digitally masked speakers: one hanging on the kitchen wall (or lying on a shelf?) And another beside a sofa on a side table. Or maybe we are looking at a single speaker with several mounting options. In any case, what we see in April will be the first in what is likely to be a series of speakers, just as we have seen with Ikea's growing Tradfri range of cheap light, dimmers, switches and soon, control units for electric blinds.
Sonos has said that the Ikea speakers are fully integrated with Sono's existing range of wireless speakers, as well as Ikea's Tradfri range of smart devices. The exhibition Ikea and Sonos Feel Home will run between 9 and 14 April as part of Milan's design week.
