How much better is Islanders with Josh Ho-Sang? The last two games give a telling test – The Athletic

NEW YORK – Can Islanders work without Josh Ho-Sang?

The answer from Thursday night was … Yes, but only barely.

The record from Isle's last two-plus seasons now stands at 67 -64-22 without Ho-Sang in the line and 32-16-4 with him in it. He has only been away for two games, but the two and the two who preceded them, all four against the lottery-bound teams, have been far from the previous nine, when Islanders went 8-1-0 and looked like one of those most disciplined teams in the league.

Barry Trotz called Thursday's "how could they do it?" win over Rangers a case of "poke and jump instead of playing through the guy and make sure the puck is out … not enough skin in the game." The Islanders have missed skin for a week now and go back to their 3- 2 overtime strokes of the Hawks at the Coliseum.

They are 3-1

-0 in their last four and, probably, their best match of the four …
