With a few exceptions, Google Pixel phones arrive in pairs, with a “standard” and “XL” model released together, with no differences other than size and battery capacity. However, a new rumor says that Google Pixel 5 only comes in XL size, without “standard” model.
This comes via Twitter user @ImjustsayingJC, who does not have a track record of leaking important information in advance release on phones – we’ll get back to this – so we’ll probably take the leak with a pinch of salt for now.
According to the leak, the phone –
We’ve heard the Snapdragon 765G claim before, so it has some probability, but other than that all this information is new to us – and it can serve as a precaution when it comes to what leaks to take seriously.
No track record
– According to information I have received …. Google Pixel 5 is expected to come in only XL variant with 765G variant priced at $ 699 August 12, 2020
We have not seen leaks from @ImjustsayingJC before, and considering that their Pixel 5 leak Tweet is the only one of theirs we can find that has had a lot of engagement, they do not seem to be a productive leak at all.
This lack of a track record means that we have to take what they say with so much salt that it can give us heart problems – there is no indication that they have any valid insider sources or any way to get legitimate information.
The text in the tweet supports: “according to information I have received” and “expected to come” are both hurdles that make the leak seem insecure about the information.
It is very possible that we are wrong, and that Google Pixel 5 will really come out in just one XL version – in which case we look forward to having another delicious one to pay attention to.
However, it is also possible that this is simply the case with something we often see in the world of technology: people make big claims about future products to attract social engagement, even though they do not actually have the information they claim.
For that reason, it’s worth really reviewing new leaks from unproven sources, so you do not get excited about something that is unlikely to occur.
Anyway, when it comes to Google Pixel 5, we’ll find out around October, because that’s when the launch is expected. Stay up to date with TechRadar for that reason as we analyze all the new information that comes our way.
