FSU administrators recently outlined part of its protocol for managing COVID-19 during a roundtable discussion between Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, FSU President John Thrasher and Athletic Director David Coburn, and coaches Mike Norvell and players Keyshawn Helton and Joshua Kaindoh. Coburn explained the minutes under the round table and shared the daily checks that players go through to get into the facility, the fact that they are largely isolated from the rest of the university and athletics outside of football, they are socially distant in their meetings and wear masks throughout day around football and facilities. Testing is every week now and is likely to increase during the season, according to Coburn.

FSU has previously refused to share specifications about the number of players who tested positive for COVID-19 since the return, but only stated that “at least one positive test” was confirmed while HIPAA considered the reason for not disclosing specific numbers.

Two famous FSU players – DL Jamarcus Chatman and DL Dennis Briggshas chosen not to play this season due to concerns about COVID-19.

Matthews has 809 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns on 84 catches during his first three seasons at FSU.

ACC, SEC and Big12 are the three Power Five programs that currently continue to play the 2020 season in the midst of the pandemic. FSU is scheduled to open the season on September 12 vs. Georgia Tech.
