Coronavirus: probably not having an effective vaccine 2021

The likelihood of having a 100% “effective” vaccine against the 2021 corona virus is low, calculated on BFMTV on Sunday, the epidemiologist Arnaud Fontanet, which invites the French to “return to more serious habits” for epidemic risk.

“A vaccine is several years in development, of course there is an unprecedented effort to develop this vaccine, but I would be very surprised if we had a vaccine that is effective in 2021,” said the Swedish Research Council responsible for informing the French government of the health crisis.

“A partially functioning vaccine”

“We will probably have a vaccine that will work in part,” Arnaud Fontanet added, hinting that “the end of the epidemic” is still “very far”. Consequently, “we have to learn to live with this virus, we cannot allow ourselves to be reconfigured … so let’s take things seriously,” he stressed. “This summer, let’s already respect the physical distance! The gathering of the population is the number one enemy,” he insisted the day after an outdoor concert, Saturday in Nice, without physical distance.

The pictures of this event led to Mayor LR Christian Estrosi forcing a mask for the big events that his municipality will now organize. In Guyana, Prime Minister Jean Castex assured that “the issue of developing the wearing of a mask is under investigation”, especially for closed spaces.

The most favorable context for the emergence of new epidemic foci remains confined spaces, says Arnaud Fontanet. “Clusters began for many in tight places: there are cruise ships, warships, sports halls, discos, slaughterhouses, places where migrant workers are located, places of worship …”
