On Wednesday night, Florida State Seminoles wide receiver DJ Matthews tweeted and then deleted that he tested positive for COVID 19:
Although Florida State has not shared any photos of the recipient of the exercise as part of their release to the media, it was indicated that Matthews still received reps as a returnee in special teams.
From our broad preview of the recipient:
The senior is back for his last season in Tallahassee and hopes to put everything together. There are times when Matthews looks like the most exciting player on the field. Then he disappears afterwards. Part of the inconsistency can be attributed to the wack-a-mol rotation at quarterback, but there is often a clear lack of focus that translates from the training field to playing days.
As a scorer, DJ looked like one of the best returnees in the country for two seasons before a dip in his production last year
The deleted tweet comes just 24 hours after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis met Florida State President John Thrasher, athletic director David Coburn, Florida State Seminoles football manager Mike Norvell and players Joshua Kaindoh and Keysahwn Helton today as part of a roundtable discussion about the vitality of holding a college football season 2020.
Coburn touched on the protocols that players follow:
When they arrive in the morning, they are temperature and symptom control, they have to answer a set of questions and then they are bandaged. And they are kept separate from the rest of the staff at the athlete. They are socially distant in their meetings. They must wear masks throughout the building and on their way to and from the exercise. That we test every week now and we will probably go for two weekly testing during the season. Everyone who gets a positive test result, we do hard work with them. And we have done it. We will continue to do so. So we are very comfortable that we have done what the medical people … in fact, in addition to what the medical people have recommended. “
