<p>  You've probably heard that the muscles burn fat once or twice from your favorite fitness Instagrammer, a bodybuilder in the gym or maybe even a random Reddit user, but if you are like us, you like to do your own research and find evidence to back up or disprove claims like this, because we want to be strong and also know how our body works, specifically how it burns fat and builds muscle, we asked an expert. </p>
<p>  "It is not necessarily [that] muscle burn fat," Rondel King, MS, CSCS, a training physiologist at the NYU Langones Sports Performance Center told POPSUGAR. What is actually burning fat? Although the muscle does not burn in fat, the more muscle mass you have, the higher your dormant metabolic rate (the amount of calories your body needs to perform basic functions that keep you alive as breathing). This means you will burn more calories, Rondel explained. </p>
