The new Toyota Yaris personally impressed me during the first rides with a comfortable chassis or low-consumption hybrid consumption. But what are the main benefits of the car in your opinion?

An important feature is a more distinctive design. Without stretching the body, we widened and lowered it while extending the wheelbase, which allowed us to put the wheels in the corners of the body, giving it a great posture when it comes to design. We also managed to achieve a good balance between driving comfort and driving dynamics. We succeeded thanks to a new platform with high body stiffness. A plus is also low consumption, when it comes to the hybrid we are the best in the segment when it comes to thermodynamic efficiency. Safety is also important, we have achieved a high level of active and passive safety, according to the latest Euro NCAP standards.

You mention the new GAGA B platform in the GA-B version for small vehicles. How is it different from the architecture of the previous Yaris?

When it comes to the concept, we have not changed anything radically. Still, we returned to the very roots. To ensure higher rigidity, we used high-strength steels to a greater extent. The number of welds also increased. We also reduced the center of gravity by moving many components lower and as close to the driver as possible. We moved the driver’s seat lower, to get a better position behind the wheel, we changed the position of the components in the engine compartment. We also used lighter materials.

The new generation of hybrid equipment for the Yaris uses a three-cylinder engine. What is the reason for his arrival instead of the four-cylinder?

Compared to a four-cylinder, we logically have fewer cylinders, which reduces friction losses. When we examine cars around a ton, we found that the 1.5-liter engine is the best choice when it comes to efficiency and low consumption in the city.

In the small car segment, supercharged three-cylinder engines are common today. Can we expect anything similar from the Yaris?

Our primary choice is a hybrid. At the moment we have no plans to launch a supercharged three-cylinder. But we use such an engine in the GR Yaris model.

Which cars do you consider to be the most important competitors for Yaris? What do you consider to be a benchmark?

Of course, we have carefully studied the small car segment in Japan, including the Volkswagen Polo and Renault Clio. But we definitely did not want to approach any of the competitors. Yaris we wanted to make an original, original. It should be flexible, compact and low consumption.

In addition to the French Valennciennes plant, the new Yaris will also be produced recently at the Cologne plant. What was your reason for this expansion of production?

When we were looking for a place in Europe for our second product based on the GA-B version of the TNGA platform, Yaris Cross, we chose our French factory in Valenciennes, where we manufacture Yaris. However, the production capacity was not enough for the intended production of both models, so we had to look for other alternatives and find a second production site. And so we chose Kolín.
