LOS ANGELES – No one will suddenly begin to explain that Cub's right-hand man Yu Darvish is a big game pitcher after one or two starts.
But Darvish turned in his key start as a Cub – if not his best clean performance – Saturday night by deleting Dodgers' formidable, playoff-bound lineup.
The Cubs eventually beat Dodgers 2-1 on a ninth-innings home run by Anthony Rizzo, but it's hard to exaggerate the importance of what Darvish did to his former team in his first start at Dodger Stadium since his famous Game 7- melting in the 2017 series.
"They are the best team in NL and I also had a bad couple in my last matches with the dodgers," Darvish said. "This is how it was, very important in my life."
"I think now I can move on."
Screwing several rounds of lusty boos from the crowd over 50,000, Darvish knocked out 1
"I was very proud of how he handled the moment," says boss Joe Maddon. "He did it back in Chicago this year as well. He shows you how good he is right now. And that is a positive result to be built on. … This can be one that unlocks him. "Just a few weeks after being reinforced at Wrigley Field in a high-trials campaign against Jake Arrieta – he replaced the favorite favorite. Darvish retired nine of the first 10 batter he met before letting a solo at home run to Alex Verdugo leading it fourth inning.
He has felt better in some starts as a cube, he said. "My mechanics, and physically, I did not feel best," he said. "But my mind was pretty good."
For a team that only lost one of their hottest pots in Kyle Hendricks to the damaged list, Darvish would have a role to play, as the cubes continue to jockey with the jetties and cardinals near the top of NL Central.
"I think the first The step was at home when he overcame the Jake case, "Maddon said." Because he was talking about it. He doesn't hold back. So he knew he had to come up with some obstacles. "
With the comeback victory the Cubs moved to a tie for the first time.
Darvish has not had a pitching decision since April, but he has a 2.96 ERA in his last four starts.
