The 19th Annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California began Friday evening (April 13) with a wide range of electric artists, from the premier R & B favorite Kali Uchis to the end of the century pop-funk throwback act Jamiroquai. Join us when we give you the time-limited play-by-play of our Day One experience in the desert – and shouting to Mason's "Yodeling Boy" Ramsey, of course.

11:46 p.m. : While The Weeknd serenades the crowd over at the main stage, the English funk-collective Jamiroquai keeps it on the Mojave tent to turn off the evening. Rocking and LED-equipped helmet featured on the album cover for last year's Automatic turns the mysterious frontman Jay Kay across the scene to the title track of the set as the words "Power reinstated, boot up sequence initialized" scroll across the screen behind them. "You're lucky I even came here," he told the audience before taking out Snoop Dogg as a special guest. 12:48 a.m. Finally, you will come to "Call Out My Name", headliner The Weeknd delivers a passionate, pared-back version of the lead track on his recently published My Loved Melancholy EP (and the current top five single on Billboard Hot 100). Towards the end of the song, the last words catch the throat and the thousands of viewers from the Coachella Stage crowd are getting a little choking with him. – A.U.
