Bregman takes grounder to the chin, requires stitches

ARLINGTON, Texas – All-Star infilder Alex Bregman left Houston's match in Texas on Thursday night after a ball of ground bounced up and hit him on his chin.

Chief AJ Hinch said during an interview in the game if ESPN sent that it looked like Bregman's chin was split up. Hinch said Bregman wanted to stay in the match, but the team made him be controlled by a doctor.

Bregman played card stops and shifted in the middle of the infield in the third innings when he walked into the field a grounder struck by Shin-Soo Choo. The ball took a late high jump and dropped Bregman in the lower half of his face, and it seemed to be blood when he was stretched by a coach.

Astros later recognized the injury as a chin coating. Hinch said Bregman needed four stitches.

Bregman is Houston's top third baseman, but he has played shortstop with Carlos Correa on the damaged list.

Myles Straw replaced Bregman on shortstop. Astros lost 5-0.
