Boston Red Sox Catcher Christian Vazquez to DL with Pinkie Damage

Boston Red Sox placed the prisoner Christian Vazquez on 10-day function list Sunday with a broken right pinkie he led sliding in the second base on Saturday night.

Vazquez had a two-run single in the seventh inning of Boston 15 -4 victory over Kansas City Royals on Saturday. He suffered the injury as he stole the second base. Sandy Leon replaced Vazquez at the catcher in the bottom of the eighth.

He has appeared in 60 matches this season (54 starts) and strikes .213 with three home runs and 14 RBI. He has thrown out 31 percent of the trial bass player (8 of 18) and has a .994 fielding percent. The red sox is 19-5 in Vazquez's last 24 starts.

With Vazquez out, Leon (.260, 4 HR, 18 RBIs) will be the full-time starter; Blake Swihart will be backup.

In Sunday's second round, Red Sox left-handed reliever Brian Johnson placed on a 10-day function list with left hip inflammation. The move is retroactive until Thursday.

Boston reminded right-handers William Cuevas and Ryan Brasier of Triple-A Pawtucket in the corresponding move.
