CINCINNATI – Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green is out of his protective luggage and is making progress in his recovery from ankle surgery before the season.
Green said he ran for about 10 minutes on Tuesday and did a leg workout with Bengal strength and fitness coach Joey Boese on Wednesday. Green said that while his area of operation is still limited, he feels good after the workouts.
"Everything is going in a good direction," Green said in his first public comments since he tore his ankle band in the first training camp and underwent surgery.
While neither he nor Bengals coach Zac Taylor has a timetable for his return, recent developments are a positive sign that Green could be back sooner than expected. Green said he feels ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation process.
Green, who is in the final year of his contract with the Bengals, said "things are happening" but has left the negotiations to his agent. However, the situation underlines the importance of being completely healthy when he returns.
He missed seven games last season with a toe injury.
